44TH MONTE-CARLO TELEVISION FESTIVAL |
|
In 1963, AMADE launched its annual prize to be awarded under the
patronage of UNESCO at the International Monte-Carlo Television
Festival. The aim of this Prize is to reward a programme of excellence
which echoes the ideals of UNESCO and AMADE and which deals with an
issue of human relationships whose plot and treatment neither feature
violence nor excite to it.

In 2004, the prize was awarded to “The Orphans of Nkandla” by
documentary maker Brian Woods for the special focus brought on the
issue of HIV-AIDS in Africa, and the terrible condition of the 750,000
children orphaned by AIDS in South-Africa alone. “The Orphans of
Nkandla”, produced by True Vision and broadcast on BBC 4, views the
plight of children living in rural areas in KwaZulu-Natal province in
the south east of the country.
