45TH MONTE-CARLO TELEVISION FESTIVAL
|
| |
|
In 1973, AMADE launched its annual prize to be awarded under the
patronage of UNESCO at the International Monte-Carlo Television
Festival. The aim of this Prize is to reward a programme of excellence
which echoes the ideals of UNESCO and AMADE and which deals with an
issue of human relationships whose plot and treatment neither feature
violence nor excite to it..
In 2005, the AMADE-UNESCO Award went to:
Karachi, the 10.000 children of Dr. Azam,
directed by Véronique Mauduy,
(co-production System TV / APL Production - Luxemburg).

Synopsis
Around 10 000 children between the age of 8 and 19 wander around the
streets of Karachi and spend their days sniffing glue. In this land of
morale and virtue, but also of artificial paradises, a man is
desperately trying to help these kids lost for society. Day and night,
Doctor Saleem Azam crosses the streets in his ambulance, embarking the
weakest ones and harbour them in his detox centre. There, he applies a
progressive severance method and teaches basic hygiene methods. But
space is limited to 30 children.
