H.R.H. THE PRINCESS OF HANOVER VISITS NIGER

The President of AMADE Mondiale made a three-days trip to Niger in order to meet the beneficiary children.

Deeply involved in personally following-up on AMADE's programmes, H.R.H. The Princess of Hanover visited the cities of Niamey, Ganguel and Kiota, from 05 to 07 February. A journey dedicated to healthcare and education.

Healthcare - Assistance for drepanocytic people
H.R.H. The Princess of Hanover wished to see by Herself the assistance brought by AMADE to the fight of the local associations against sickle-cell anemia, a blood disorder that strikes more than 20% of the Nigerien population. The President of AMADE visited the building site of the Health and Research Centre for sickle-cell disease.
The building of the Centre took most of the year 2008, and the place should officially open in March 2009. H.R.H. The Princess of Hanover went to visit the various rooms, accompanied by the Nigerien Minister of Public Health and the Director of the Centre. Many families were present at this event to show their gratitude and to salute the creation of a structure that guarantees a better care for their children.

Education - The sites of Kiota and Ganguel
The following day, H.R.H. The Princess of Hanover met the pupils of the school complex of Kiota, 120 km from Niamey. Thanks to the generosity of school and libraries in the Principality of Monaco, several hundreds of books were gathered in 2008 and sent to the Sheik Aboubacar Library, in addition to many comic books donated by Monaco's International Cooperation Division. AMADE financed the purchase of school books for the pupils of the High School of Kiota. The President of AMADE Mondiale participated in the official distribution of the books to the hundreds of children present on that day. She also had the opportunity to meet Sheik Moussa Aboubacar Hassoumi, Caliph of the Tidjane Brotherhood, and to talk about the needs of the children in Kiota.
H.R.H. The Princess of Hanover ended Her journey with a visit to the children living on the Ganguel plateau, 20 km from Niamey, on the banks of the river Niger. She officially laid the foundation stone of the classrooms that will be built in the framework of the programme for the improvement of school enrolment on the plateau. The ceremony took place in the village of Saga Fondo, in the presence of several hundreds of children; some of them presented The Princess of Hanover with their dances and songs, as well as a performance representing the assistance the local authorities bring to them.
