The AMADE jury has attributed a Special Award to reward a programme which deals with some social issue and highlights the fate of the most unprivileged. This year again, the jury watched many talented and highly moving documentaries.

 AMADE Award 2009

The 2009 AMADE Award goes to Escaping North Korea (Première Nouvelle / Chosun Ilbo / Pallas TV).
For more than a year, a team of french and korean reporters followed the journey of North-Korean families all the way through China, Laos, Thailand, to reach South Korea...
Although Pyongyang and Seoul are only 200 km away, thousands of refugees willing to run away from North Korea have to make a dangerous trip of 10.000 km through South-East Asia to reach South Korea. A trip many of them will never see the end of...

These reporters have risked their own freedom to bring back this witness. Amongst many heart-breaking images, AMADE jury will remember the story of Min Chul, a little ten-year-old boy, travelling with a group of fugitives toward freedom and discovering his most elementary rights.
