The 49th session of the Monte-Carlo TV Festival held from 07 to 11 June 2009 in the Grimaldi Forum.

The 2009 AMADE Award goes to Escaping North Korea (Première Nouvelle / Chosun Ilbo / Pallas TV).

Although Pyongyang and Seoul are only 200 km away, thousands of refugees willing to run away from North Korea have to make a dangerous trip of 10.000 km through South-East Asia to reach South Korea. A trip many of them will never see the end of...

For more than a year, a team of french and korean reporters followed the journey of North-Korean families all the way through China, Laos, Thailand, to reach South Korea. These reporters have risked their own freedom to bring back this witness. Amongst many heart-breaking images, AMADE jury will remember the story of Min Chul, a little ten-year-old boy, travelling with a group of fugitives toward freedom and discovering his most elementary rights.
