INTERNATIONAL PRESS AWARD 2005 - ERIC CHAVEROU

AMADE International Press Award was created in 1996 to acknowledge the crucial contribution by journalists in raising public awareness and bearing a truthful and dignified testimony to children's condition. A total of seven prizes were awarded between 1996 and 2002.

The AMADE International Press Prize 2005 was awarded to Eric Chaverou, a journalist with the Multimedia office of Radio France, for his coverage of the situation of the "child soldiers" in Sierra Leone.

Eric Chaverou chosed to highlight the new lives of ex-young girls-soldiers, who would have been 3.000 to 6.000 to be conscripted against their will in Ouest Africa.
The portraits and interviews of these children show their slow re-integration and their weakness against health problems and AIDS.

Prize delivered by Vice-President, Jacques Danois.
