Pio Manzu

For more than thirty years, the Pio Manzù Centre acts in the area of scientific research, gathering every year, in October, leaders of governments, presidents of universities and international bodies, as well as experts and scientists,  in order to debate of major social issues.

The objectives of this year's meetings were to focus on challenges related to children's welfare, and on instruments and mechanisms needed for protecting the children's rights.

A specific attention were attached to the actions accomplished to support the development of the children and to relieve their suffering; the speakers looked also into the effectve measures set up on both regional and international levels, in terms of prevention as well as of rehabilitation, to help the child

Conférence de Rimini

Monsieur Kasasa
AMADE Mondiale answered with enthusiasm to the invitation of former President Mr. Mikhail Gorbachev, President of the Scientific Committee of the Pio Manzù Centre. ,Mr. Francis Kasasa, Secretary General, and Mr. Jean Kerwat, Member of Executive Committee and of Board of Directors, were AMADE's representatives for the meetings.

Mr. Kasasa was invited to speak during the workshop titled  « Eradiquer la faim : interdépendance des Objectifs du Millénaire pour le Développement »; a topic unfortunately still present, since  the World Health Organization estimated the number of children suffering from severe malnutrition around 20 millions worldwide.

This workshop gathered nutritionists, scientists, field actors and members of governments, come from different backgrounds to bring their contribution.

The 33rd conference of the Pio Manzù Centre has been named "Il volo del colibri" - "The flight of the hummingbird" as a reference to an african tale, in which a hummingbird tries to fight all by itself a forest fire. Despite the impossibility of this fight, its attitude remains: "I have to do my part".

 Conférence de Rimini

Colibri

Four workshops have been held on October 27-29, concerning matters such as children-soldiers, street children, children working, etc...  Amongst them, we want to highlight:
- That the many offenses caused to children by hunger, exploitation or lack of education, drown them into a deeper destitution pit.
- That the history of mankind must put an end to this pain. Speakers strongly want to raise people's awareness.
- That to the opinion of millions of children and teenagers, free their body still means free themselves of suffering, obstacles and deprivations.
- That the child is the anthropological and psychological frame in which our society evolves. In each child, the world is created again.
- That 70% of one's personality are already defined within the child he has been; as William Wordsworth declared: "the child is the father of mankind".

Our Secretary General attended the plenary session of the Conference, together with persons like

Mr. Evo Morales, President of Bolivia,
Mrs. Maud de Boer Buquicchio, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe,
Mrs. Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega, Deputy Prime Minister of Spain,
Mrs. Antoinette Sassou Nguesso, First Lady of Congo Brazaville,
Mr. Alberto Ravaioli, Mayor of Rimini,
Mr. Roberto Pinza, Deputy Minister of Economy,
Mr. Paulo Sergio Pinheiro, former Secretary of State of Brazil for human rights.
And many more.

These different persons developed their opinion regarding the situation of children worldwide and the strategies to eradicate many of their problems. A medal ceremony was held to reward those who wildly act to a better world to give to the children of the planet.
