NIGER - EMERGENCY HELP

Summer 2005 - Niger suffers from a severe malnutrition crisis stricking more than 3 million people.

In nearly 3.000 villages, 800.000 less than five-year-old children are suffering from important malnutrition and malaria.
An appeal for international help was issued by United Nations on May 2005. In partnership with the Consulate of Monaco in Niger and the Monacan Cooperation, AMADE Mondiale has send out a financial help of 25.000 Euros, used in order to take care of starving children.
This sum enabled to buy:
- 4 tons of therapeutic food "Plumpy nut" (groundnut paste, vitamin...)
- 3 tons of enhanced flour
- 1.000 insecticide-impregnated mosquito nets
- medecine against malaria.
These therapeutic foods has been selected in agree with the Representant of UNICEF and WHO, and was distributed essencially in the area of Maradi, in the department of Dokoro, one of the zones mostly hurt by this crisis, helping more than 1.000 children in Niger.
